Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) EIN# 45-4340752 charitable corporation located on the North Fork of Long Island. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release wild chelonian species native to Long Island, to provide a sanctuary with a high quality of life for those who have sustained a permanent disability, and to allow injured animals to live out their lives with dignity and respect. We work to promote a safe and healthy natural environment by providing public education services regarding the threats and challenges facing our native populations.

Our state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility, “Turtle Manor,” is a charming c. 1920 farmhouse, which is fully converted and equipped to rehabilitate over 200 turtles annually. The sanctuary is located on one acre of natural woodlands and manmade ponds and home to our permanently disabled residents. We are also proud members and supporters of 22 national charities.
They are a keystone species, depended on in the eco system. They are gardeners, dispersing seeds and fertilizing through their digestion as well as producing nitrogen and phosphorus. They are part of the cleanup crew, eating dead fish and plants, cleaning the water of bacteria.
Karen Testa, our executive director, is a New York State-licensed wildlife rehabilitator as well as a volunteer and proud supporter of animal welfare. In 2011 she was honored by the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center for her outstanding support toward the rehabilitation of native reptiles.
Karen, along with Dr. Robert Pisciotta of the North Fork Animal Hospital and a small staff of caring volunteers, works tirelessly to fulfill the organization’s mission.
